Een brede, sierlijke kristallen kroonluchter in Maria Theresia-stijl met zes lichten. De zes gebogen armen zijn bekleed met glas en versierd met kleine glazen rozetten; daarboven krullen extra sierarmen omhoog. In het midden zit een geslepen balusterstam met een ruitenpatroon (foto 4) en een geschulpte kroon met pegels. De kaarsschotels hebben een matgeslepen, geschulpte rand.
Wat deze kroonluchter bijzonder maakt zijn de grote, platte bladvormige pegels (ook wel ‘French cut’ of ‘pendeloques’ genoemd), afgewisseld met druppels en een kristallen bol onderaan het midden (foto 5). In het licht geven ze een levendig spel van reflecties. De opbouw – glazen hulzen over een metalen frame, met rozetten op de verbindingen – is typerend voor de Maria Theresia-kroonluchters die in het midden van de 20e eeuw in Europa werden gemaakt.

De Maria Theresia-kroonluchter is een tijdloze klassieker die nooit uit de mode raakt. Deze variant is breed en relatief laag, waardoor hij ook mooi hangt boven een eettafel of in een ruimte met een normale plafondhoogte. De grote bladpegels geven hem net wat meer glans dan het standaardmodel.

Conditie: redelijk, met gebruikssporen passend bij de leeftijd. Bij een van de sierarmen ontbreken twee glazen bekledingsstukjes, waardoor het metalen frame daar zichtbaar is (foto 6). Bij enkele pegels zit bovenaan bij het ophangoogje een geelachtig lijm- of kitrestje (foto 5 en 7). Geen breuken of ontbrekende armen gezien. De bedrading moet worden nagekeken voordat de kroonluchter wordt opgehangen; de prijs is daarop aangepast.

Crystal Maria Theresa chandelier with leaf-shaped drops, six lights – mid-20th century
A wide, graceful crystal chandelier in Maria Theresa style with six lights. The six curved arms are clad in glass and decorated with small glass rosettes; above them extra decorative arms scroll upwards. At the centre is a cut baluster stem with a diamond pattern (photo 4) and a scalloped crown with drops. The candle cups have a frosted, scalloped rim.
What makes this chandelier special are the large, flat leaf-shaped drops (also known as ‘French cut’ or ‘pendeloques’), alternating with teardrops and a crystal ball at the bottom of the centre (photo 5). In the light they create a lively play of reflections. The construction – glass sleeves over a metal frame, with rosettes at the joints – is typical of the Maria Theresa chandeliers made in Europe in the mid-20th century.
Why we chose this piece
The Maria Theresa chandelier is a timeless classic that never goes out of fashion. This version is wide and relatively low, so it also hangs beautifully above a dining table or in a room with a normal ceiling height. The large leaf drops give it just a little more sparkle than the standard model.

Condition: fair, with signs of use consistent with age. On one of the decorative arms two pieces of the glass cladding are missing, so the metal frame is visible there (photo 6). On a few drops there is a yellowish residue of glue or sealant at the top near the hanging loop (photo 5 and 7). No breaks or missing arms seen. The wiring needs to be checked before the chandelier is hung; the price reflects this.
