English description
Art Deco pendant light by Degué – pressed glass with flowers and brass, France 1920s–30s
An elegant French Art Deco pendant light (suspension, ceiling bowl light) with a bowl of pressed, frosted glass (verre pressé moulé), signed Degué – France. The scalloped rim of the bowl is decorated with a garland of flowers in relief; at the bottom, stylised rays meet in a star shape on a ground of faceted panels. The bowl hangs from three flat brass rods with diamond-shaped mounts and a cast ceiling canopy with roses.
Why we chose this piece
Degué was the trade name of glassmaker David Guéron, whose glassworks in Compiègne became known in the 1920s and 1930s for pressed and moulded Art Deco glass and lighting. This lamp is clearly signed in the glass and combines the typical French Art Deco floral decoration with a crisp geometric star. The frosted glass gives a soft, even light, and the brass suspension with roses completes the piece.
Style and interior
Beautiful above a dining table or in a hallway, bedroom or landing in an Art Deco, French or classic interior. In a modern interior with lots of white and natural tones, this lamp also adds a refined vintage accent. On or off, the relief in the glass always remains visible.
