Lang Frans houten boerenbankje op schraagpoten – banc de ferme
Een lange, slanke Franse boerenbank (banc de ferme) van bijna 1,80 meter: één massieve houten zitplank op twee V-vormige schraagpoten met dwarsregel. Dit type bankje stond in Franse boerderijen, wijnkelders en bistro’s langs de lange eettafel. Het hout heeft een warme, doorleefde patina met de krasjes en vlekjes van decennia gebruik. Een eerlijk, sober stuk vintage meubilair dat in een modern interieur net zo goed staat als in een landelijk huis.
Waarom wij dit kozen
Wij vallen steeds weer voor deze eenvoudige Franse banken: de constructie is tot het uiterste teruggebracht en toch is de lijn elegant. De smalle plank en de schuine poten maken het bankje licht van uiterlijk, terwijl het hout de sporen van een lang leven laat zien. Juist die echtheid maak je niet na.
Stijl en interieur
Prachtig aan een lange eettafel of keukentafel, in een hal, onder een raam of aan het voeteneind van een bed. Het bankje past in een landelijk of Frans brocante-interieur, maar ook in een wabi-sabi, minimalistisch of industrieel interieur, waar het sobere hout een mooi contrast geeft met strakke lijnen. Ook als smalle wandtafel voor boeken, planten of manden is het heel bruikbaar.

Conditie: goede, gebruikte staat met een mooie, onaangetaste patina. De zitplank heeft over de hele lengte gebruikssporen: krassen, deukjes, kleine vlekjes en donkere verkleuringen. Aan één uiteinde zit een donkere vlek met een kleine krimpscheur in het kopse hout (foto 6). Midden op de plank zitten een donkere vlek en een paar kleine krimpscheurtjes rond een kwast (foto 7); dit hoort bij oud, massief hout. De schragen zijn met verbindingen en nagels/pennen in elkaar gezet (foto 8) en hebben slijtage aan de randen en voeten. Het hout is niet opnieuw gelakt of geschuurd.

A long, slender French farmhouse bench (banc de ferme) of almost 1.80 metres: a single solid wooden seat plank on two V-shaped trestle legs with stretchers. Benches like this stood in French farmhouses, wine cellars and bistros alongside the long dining table. The wood has a warm, lived-in patina with the scratches and marks of decades of use. An honest, understated piece of vintage furniture that looks just as good in a modern interior as in a country home.
Why we chose this piece
We keep falling for these simple French benches: the construction is pared back to the essentials, yet the line is elegant. The narrow plank and angled legs make the bench look light, while the wood shows the traces of a long life. That kind of authenticity cannot be imitated.
Style and interior
Beautiful at a long dining or kitchen table, in a hallway, under a window or at the foot of a bed. The bench suits a country or French brocante interior, but also a wabi-sabi, minimalist or industrial interior, where the plain wood contrasts nicely with clean lines. It also works very well as a narrow console for books, plants or baskets.

Condition: good, used condition with a beautiful, untouched patina. The seat plank shows wear along its full length: scratches, small dents, small marks and dark discolouration. One end has a dark stain with a small shrinkage crack in the end grain (photo 6). In the middle of the plank there is a dark stain and a few small shrinkage cracks around a knot (photo 7); this is typical of old solid wood. The trestles are joined and secured with nails/pins (photo 8) and show wear to the edges and feet. The wood has not been re-varnished or sanded.
