English description
Set of four French ladderback chairs with rush seats
A characterful set of four French dining chairs from the 1950s or 1960s. The tall ladder backs, turned uprights and rounded knob details give the chairs a distinctly handcrafted look. The hand-woven rush seats form a lovely natural contrast with the warmly patinated solid wood.
The chairs are rooted in traditional French country furniture, yet their sober, strong design makes them surprisingly at home in a modern interior. The visible joinery, slender tall backs and simple construction give the set an almost architectural quality.
They pair well with interiors in the spirit of Charlotte Perriand, Pierre Chapo, Guillerme et Chambron, Jean Touret and Audoux-Minet. They are not attributed to these designers, but share the same appreciation for solid wood, craftsmanship and rustic modernity.
Why we chose this piece
Honest, handcrafted chairs with a lived-in look and a sturdy construction: exactly the rustic modernity we love.
