Bijzettafel met metalen lelies en rond glazen blad

Deze bloementafel is een echte blikvanger: het onderstel is een boeket van metalen lelies, bladeren en stengels, bijeengebonden met een gedraaid metalen ’touw’ en uitwaaierend in drie sierlijke poten. Op de gebogen bladeren rust een rond glazen blad van 65 cm. Het is uitgevoerd in tole-werk, de gelakte plaatmetaaltechniek die in de jaren 60 en 70 vooral in en rond Florence werd toegepast, in een zachte crèmetint met een lichte antiekpatina. Te gebruiken als bijzettafel, wijntafeltje of klein salontafeltje in Hollywood Regency-stijl.

Waarom wij dit kozen

Wij vallen voor meubels die tegelijk object zijn. Dit boeket is met de hand opgebouwd uit tientallen losse bloemen, bladeren en stengels, tot aan de rode meeldraadpuntjes in de lelies. Door het glazen blad blijft het onderstel volledig zichtbaar, en de crèmekleur maakt het geheel lichter en eigentijdser dan de bekendere vergulde versies.

Stijl en interieur

Past in een romantisch of Hollywood Regency-interieur, maar komt net zo goed tot zijn recht tussen strakke, moderne meubels of in een landelijk wit interieur, een serre of een slaapkamer. Naast een fauteuil, in een erker of als kleine ontbijttafel voor twee.

Conditie: goede vintage staat. Het onderstel is compleet: alle bloemen, bladeren en stengels zijn aanwezig. De crèmekleurige laklaag heeft een lichte, bruinige antiekpatina en daarnaast leeftijdsgebonden gebruikssporen: kleine lakslijtage en puntjes op de randen van bladeren en stengels (foto 6) en wat lichte vlekjes op de bloemblaadjes (foto 5). Het glazen blad ligt los op de drie bladuiteinden van het onderstel (foto 4) en heeft een geslepen rand zonder schilfers; lichte gebruikskrasjes in het glas horen bij de leeftijd.

Side table with metal lilies and round glass top

This flower table is a true eye-catcher: the base is a bouquet of metal lilies, leaves and stems, tied together with a twisted metal ‘rope’ and fanning out into three graceful legs. A round glass top of 65 cm rests on the curved leaves. It is made in tole work, the lacquered sheet-metal technique used mainly in and around Florence in the 1960s and 1970s, finished in a soft cream with a light antique patina. Use it as a side table, wine table or small coffee table in Hollywood Regency style.

Why we chose this piece

We love furniture that is also an object in its own right. This bouquet has been built up by hand from dozens of separate flowers, leaves and stems, right down to the red stamen tips in the lilies. Thanks to the glass top the base remains fully visible, and the cream colour makes the whole piece lighter and more contemporary than the better-known gilded versions.

Style and interior

It suits a romantic or Hollywood Regency interior, but works just as well among clean-lined modern furniture or in a white country-style interior, a conservatory or a bedroom. Place it beside an armchair, in a bay window or use it as a small breakfast table for two.

Condition: good vintage condition. The base is complete: all flowers, leaves and stems are present. The cream lacquer has a light, brownish antique patina as well as age-related wear: small areas of worn lacquer and specks on the edges of leaves and stems (photo 6) and some light marks on the petals (photo 5). The glass top rests loose on the three leaf ends of the base (photo 4) and has a polished edge without chips; light surface scratches in the glass are in keeping with its age.
