Vintage Ahrend ‘Comfort’ stoelen in makoré hout, ca. 1966

Vintage Ahrend ‘Comfort’ stoelen in makoré hout, ca. 1966

English description

Vintage Ahrend ‘Comfort’ chairs in makoré wood, c. 1966

Special and very rare original vintage chairs: the Comfort model by Ahrend, with a moulded wooden seat and back in a warm makoré veneer/look and a black metal frame. Originally designed as a contract or hall chair, today they are at least as beautiful around a dining table, meeting table or in a creative studio.

The combination of the slender tubular frame, the subtly curved backrests and the warm wood gives these chairs exactly the understated elegance at which Dutch utilitarian design excels.

We received the information on the line and finish from Ahrend itself, together with accompanying brochure images. Within this range the chairs are referred to as Comfort; the documentation names the wood as makoré. One of the chairs is also dated 28 June 1966, placing the set nicely in time.

Why we chose this piece

An honest, rarer set of Dutch design chairs with a strong graphic silhouette. The patina gives the set character and authenticity.
