Een elegante vintage handtas van glanzend zwart lakleer (patent leather) van het Amerikaanse merk Coblentz, binnenin gemerkt ‘Coblentz Original’ en ‘Genuine Patent Leather’. De strakke, rechthoekige beugeltas heeft twee lakleren hengsels die met vergulde schakelkettingen aan de tas vastzitten, en vergulde hoekjes op de klep van het voorvak.
De tas is slim ingedeeld: een middenvak met een vergulde sluiting in de vorm van een strik, aan weerszijden een open vak (harmonicamodel) en binnenin een ritsvak. Aan de achterkant zit een vak met drukknoop en een klep, met in goud gestempeld ‘Passport – Tickets – Currency’: een echte reistas uit de tijd van de eerste vliegreizen (foto 6 en 12). De bijpassende spiegel in een rood gemarmerd kunststof etui met het Coblentz-logo is er nog bij (foto 13).
Coblentz (Coblentz Bag Company, opgericht in 1935 in New York door Louis J. Coblentz) maakte tot rond 1980 luxe handtassen voor de betere Amerikaanse warenhuizen. Vorm, beslag en het label passen bij de jaren 50–60.
Waarom wij dit kozen
Een tas met een verhaal: strak en tijdloos, maar met die slimme indeling voor paspoort, tickets en geld van de reiziger uit de jaren 60. Compleet met het originele spiegeltje, en nog steeds goed te gebruiken.
Stijl en interieur
Een klassieke vintage designertas voor wie van mid-century mode houdt: mooi bij een zwarte jurk of een strak pak, en in de kast of op een sidetable ook gewoon een prachtig object. Een leuk cadeau voor liefhebbers van vintage tassen en jaren 60-mode.

Conditie: goed, gebruikte vintage staat. Het lakleer glanst nog mooi, met lichte krasjes en de fijne kreukellijntjes die bij lakleer horen, vooral op de klep van het voorvak (foto 1). Het verguldsel van de ringen bij de hengsels en van de hoekjes is licht gesleten (foto 8). Binnenkant en ritsen netjes en compleet. Het spiegeletui heeft lichte gebruikskrasjes (foto 13).

An elegant vintage handbag in glossy black patent leather by the American maker Coblentz, marked inside ‘Coblentz Original’ and ‘Genuine Patent Leather’. The sleek, rectangular frame bag has two patent leather handles attached with gilt curb chains, and gilt corner mounts on the flap of the front pocket.
The bag is cleverly organised: a central compartment with a gilt bow-shaped clasp, an open compartment on either side (accordion style) and a zipped pocket inside. At the back is a pocket with a press stud and flap, stamped in gold ‘Passport – Tickets – Currency’: a true travel bag from the early days of air travel (photos 6 and 12). The matching mirror in a red marbled plastic case with the Coblentz logo is still included (photo 13).
Coblentz (Coblentz Bag Company, founded in 1935 in New York by Louis J. Coblentz) made luxury handbags for the better American department stores until around 1980. The shape, hardware and label are consistent with the 1950s–60s.

Condition: good, used vintage condition. The patent leather still has a lovely shine, with light scratches and the fine crease lines typical of patent leather, mainly on the flap of the front pocket (photo 1). The gilding of the rings at the handles and of the corner mounts shows light wear (photo 8). Interior and zips clean and complete. The mirror case has light scratches from use (photo 13).
