Afmetingen: 21 × 23,4 cm
Periode: vermoedelijk tweede helft 19e eeuw
Herkomst: vermoedelijk Nederland

English description

Antique drawing study of plums on a branch

A refined antique drawing of plums on a branch, executed in black chalk or pencil. With soft hatching, the round fruits, the serrated leaves and the gnarled twig are rendered in three dimensions. The drawing is mounted on card with drawn border lines and still has its original protective tissue sheet. The sheet is unsigned and has the character of a careful academic drawing study or a sheet from a drawing portfolio, probably from the second half of the 19th century.

Why we chose this piece

We fall for modest, honest drawings like this: you see the draughtsman’s hand in every stroke of hatching. The protective tissue over it tells you how carefully someone looked after it.

Style and interior

A lovely addition to a country-style, classic or botanical interior, for example in a kitchen, dining room or hallway. Beautiful combined with other botanical prints.

Dimensions: 21 × 23.4 cm
Technique: black chalk / pencil on paper, mounted on card with border lines
Period: probably second half of the 19th century
Origin: probably the Netherlands
Signature: unsigned
Condition: Fair to good. The drawing itself is fresh. The protective tissue sheet has an offset of the drawing, creases and small tears (photos 1 and 2). The card is lightly toned with a few spots and light edge wear.
