Franse provinciale eiken stoel Lotharingen 17e-18e eeuw – foto 1

Afmetingen: hoogte 83 cm, breedte 38 cm, diepte 34 cm
Materiaal: massief eiken
Periode: eind 17e – begin 18e eeuw
Herkomst: Frankrijk, vermoedelijk Lotharingen

English description

Antique French provincial oak chair from Lorraine

This characterful French provincial chair in solid oak probably comes from the Lorraine region and dates from the late 17th to early 18th century. The tall open back, the gently scalloped rails, the solid plank seat and the turned front legs give the chair an almost architectural, graphic presence.

The oak has a warm reddish-brown patina with dark signs of age. The seat shows an expressive network of age cracks, giving the chair a deeply lived-in and authentic character. Turned front legs with a turned front stretcher.

Why we chose this piece

Centuries-old patina and honest craftsmanship: a chair that is as strong as a sculpture as it is as a seat. Three related chairs from the same collection are also available – together they form a coherent but not uniform set.

Style and interior

A beautiful decorative object: in a hallway, beside the bed, in a dressing room or as a sculptural accent in a French, Belgian or wabi-sabi interior.

Dimensions: height 83 cm, width 38 cm, depth 34 cm
Material: solid oak
Period: late 17th – early 18th century
Origin: France, probably Lorraine
Condition: good for its age, with old repairs, woodworm holes and signs of use that enhance its authentic character
