Een grote, handgevlochten fruitschaal op voet van rotan, ook wel rieten fruitmand, schaal op voet of coupe genoemd. Het ronde, vlakke blad met opstaande rand rust op een taps toelopende hals en een brede, uitlopende voet. Het geheel is spiraalsgewijs gevlochten met smalle strookjes gespleten rotan rond een kern van rotan, in de fijne, dichte techniek die kenmerkend is voor het vlechtwerk uit Indonesië (Lombok). De bovenrand is afgewerkt met een gevlochten visgraatrand, de voet met een gedraaide rand. Het rotan heeft een warme, honingbruine kleur met donkere accenten.
Waarom wij dit kozen
Dit is ambachtelijk vlechtwerk van het fijnere soort: strak, regelmatig en stevig, met een mooie spiraal in het midden van het blad. De vorm is eenvoudig en tijdloos, en de schaal is groot genoeg om echt een hele fruitoogst, broden of een stilleven van pompoenen en granaatappels op te zetten.

Conditie: goede vintage staat. Het vlechtwerk is stevig en regelmatig, zonder gebroken of losgeraakte strengen; de randen van blad en voet zijn gaaf. Het rotan heeft een mooi, gelijkmatig patina met lichte gebruikssporen en hier en daar wat kleurverschil in de strookjes, zoals hoort bij handgevlochten natuurmateriaal. De schaal staat stabiel op de voet.

A large, hand-woven footed fruit bowl in rattan, also known as a wicker fruit basket, pedestal bowl or compote. The round, flat top with raised rim rests on a tapering stem and a broad, flared foot. The whole piece is woven in a spiral with narrow strips of split rattan around a rattan core, in the fine, dense technique characteristic of basketry from Indonesia (Lombok). The top rim is finished with a woven herringbone edge, the foot with a twisted edge. The rattan has a warm, honey-brown colour with darker accents.
